Photographing siblings is always a fun adventure for me. I get to hear how they joke around or tease each other. I have the opportunity to see the older brother, putting an arm around the younger one, with care and reassurance. I get to see a big sister, giving a kiss to a tiny baby with so much love and tenderness. I also am able to hear the most hilarious excuses why siblings do not want to hug. I get to watch the giggles, the tickles, and witness all sorts of shenanigans. There is never a dull moment when siblings are involved.
The different ways in which siblings connect, and show love and care for each other always gives me pause. So many different personalities are involved. So many unique bonds. Seeing the playful moments, as well as the more heartfelt ones is worth documenting. Often, I am lucky enough to capture how bonds evolve over time. And trust me, they will.
I love nothing more than seeing the kiddos feel free to goof around together in front of my camera. Capturing their unscripted, free-spirited interactions is priceless. It may look like sheer chaos, but if you just allow space for fun and authenticity, it can actually be so much fun for all involved.
To all the siblings I get to photograph: thank you for the laughter, the fun, and most of all the shenanigans of the past and those yet to come. And to all the parents trying to capture the siblings' photos in between our sessions: keep it simple, keep it fun and embrace the chaos.
And don't forget to BOOK you next sibling photoshoot!
